The Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race returns for its 80th edition, continuing its legacy as one of Australia’s most iconic summer sporting events. The event features a full lineup of events and activities across both the Sydney Race Village at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia and the Hobart Race Village at Constitution Dock.

In Sydney, the Race Village comes alive throughout December with a variety of gatherings and celebrations. Key events include Quiet Little Drink, which recognizes sailor milestones such as first-time participants, Youth Sailing Academy alumni, women completing their 10th race, and sailors marking their 25th. Additional festivities include the VIP and Skipper Launch, a Long Lunch for crews and supporters, the 80th Clubhouse Crew Party, Family Day following the Boxing Day start with race coverage on the big screen, a Women in Sailing panel discussion, a Classic Yacht BBQ and presentation, and a New Members Meet and Greet.
In Hobart, the Race Village offers live music, on-stage Q&A sessions with sailors, family-friendly entertainment, kids activities, race viewing on large screens, merchandise stands, and food and beverage vendors. Competitors can also enjoy a daily Crew Happy Hour.
Beyond the waterfront, visitors in Hobart can explore local cultural attractions, including museums, markets, cafés, and seasonal festivities associated with the city’s summer celebrations.
2025 Lead-Up Events
- December 5–9 – Australian Maxi Championship
Hosted by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, this regatta features four races for Maxis (80–100 ft) and Mini Maxis (60–79 ft). It provides key competitive preparation for many Sydney Hobart entrants.
- December 5 – Cabbage Tree Island Race
The fifth race of the 2025/26 Audi Centre Sydney Blue Water Pointscore and the opening race of the Australian Maxi Championship. The 172-nautical-mile course runs from Point Piper to Cabbage Tree Island and back, attracting a strong fleet and serving as a crucial qualifier and training race for Sydney Hobart teams.
- December 7–8 – Additional Maxi Championship Races
Competitors in both Maxi divisions take on two passage races ahead of the final showdown.
- December 9 – SOLAS Big Boat Challenge
A high-energy spectacle on Sydney Harbour featuring mini maxis, maxis, and super maxis in a fast-paced contest that concludes the Maxi Championship.
- December 12–14 – Club Marine Sydney Hobart Classic Yacht Regatta
Three days of racing in Sydney Harbour featuring historic yachts. Includes an invitation race, a pursuit race, and a scratch race. Open to Classics, Modern Classics, and selected Veteran yachts, celebrating the heritage of Australia’s premier ocean race.
- December 17 – Women in Sailing Night
A panel discussion moderated by Olympian and Rolex commentator Lisa Darmanin, featuring accomplished local and international women sailors sharing stories, insights, and experiences.
- December 20 – Official VIP & Skippers Launch
An invitation-only event at the Sydney Race Village marking the countdown to the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.
- December 22 – Crew Party
A pre-race celebration in the Sydney Race Village, bringing together competitors to connect and celebrate before the start.
- December 26 – 80th Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race
The iconic race starts at 1:00 pm from Sydney Harbour. Family Day at the Sydney Race Village offers live viewing, activities, and festivities for spectators.
- December 27 – Hobart Race Village Opens
The village at Constitution Dock opens with live music, Q&As, food and drinks, and a prime location to watch the fleet finish.
- December 31 – Prize Giving Ceremony
Held at the Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart, this ceremony recognizes winners across all divisions of the 2025 race.
